Bone marrow transplant is a specialized therapy done for benign as well as malignant disorders in which the faulty bone marrow of the patient is replaced by healthy bone marrow of the donor. This procedure involves transplanting blood stem cells, which travel to the bone marrow where they produce new blood cells and promote growth of new marrow. It is the curative modality for many diseases. The bone marrow transplant is indicated for the following conditions: - Benign refers to a condition, tumor, or growth that is not cancerous. This means that it does not spread to other parts of the body. It does not invade nearby tissue. Sometimes, a condition is called benign to suggest it is not dangerous or serious.
